World Diabetes Day is commemorated every year on November 14. It's a day to spread awareness about the impact that diabetes has on the health of people.According to the International Diabetes Federation, 537 million adults between the ages of 20-79 years have diabetes. What's more, almost half of them have no idea that they're living with the condition! By 2030, this number is predicted to rise to 643 million.We may not give these numbers much thought– that is, until someone we care about, or even we ourselves, are diagnosed with diabetes. In that case, suddenly, we're more interested in these statistics and start to see them differently.Just imagine. You (or your loved one) are simply living your life as usual. Then you notice that you've been feeling more thirsty than usual, and you also seem to be hungry constantly. You've started losing weight without even trying, and you're feeling tired and weak. The mood swings come and go with more frequency than before. You decide to visit the doctor, who advises you to do a blood test. The results come in, and Bam!&nbsp;Of course, getting diagnosed with a chronic illness like diabetes impacts the person who has been diagnosed. But, it also invariably has some effect on their relationships as well. In some cases, the effects might be minor, but in others, diabetes can hang around as a constant source of friction.<h2>The Bitter Side of Diabetes</h2>In short, diabetes is a disease that occurs when the glucose levels in your blood are too high. If you have diabetes, your body is either unable to make or use insulin, the hormone that brings glucose into your cells, which they need for energy. So, instead, the glucose doesn't reach your cells.The most common types of diabetes are type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.If you have type 1 diabetes, your body makes little to no insulin. That's because your immune system attacks and destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. Although it can appear at any age, this type of diabetes is usually diagnosed in young adults and children.&nbsp;Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. If you have it, the cells in your body aren't able to use insulin properly. The pancreas may make insulin, but it's just not enough to keep your blood glucose level in the normal range. You can develop type 2 diabetes at any age. And if you have risk factors, such as obesity or a family history of the disease, then your chances of developing the disease are even higher.The third type, gestational diabetes, develops during pregnancy. But, for the most part, it goes away after the baby is born.When diabetes enters as a permanent, uninvited guest in your life, it can also bring a whole load of challenges for your relationship.The very first challenge is the adjustment that needs to be made to your lifestyle. You might have to make changes to your diet to reduce high-risk foods and add healthier options. You may also need to think about your physical activity levels and make changes in that area as well. These adjustments can affect both partners, as they may need to modify their shared routines and activities.&nbsp;Not only that, managing diabetes is associated with everything from medicines, medical supplies, and doctor's visits. And what if just one partner is responsible for covering these expenses? And if you're in a relationship, it automatically becomes a part of your partner's life, too.The good news is that studies show that having a supportive partner can help you manage the disease better. And teamwork brings you closer as a couple.So, how can you team up with your partner in the fight against diabetes? Here are a few tips:<h3>Communicate openly and honestly</h3>Communication is key in any relationship. But, when you add diabetes to the equation, it becomes even more crucial. When partners are comfortable discussing their concerns, needs, and fears related to diabetes, it can help create a supportive and understanding environment.For example, being aware of where your blood sugar is and communicating its impact to your partner can be helpful. The more you know, the better equipped you are to provide support and make informed decisions.<h3>Make it a team effort</h3>Both partners should actively participate in managing the condition. Go to doctor's appointments together, remind your partner to check their blood sugar levels, and support them through their healthy lifestyle changes. ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that can affect many aspects of someone’s life. And relationships are no exception. ADHD symptoms like not paying attention, being hyperactive, or acting on impulse can make things challenging for any pair.However, there are ways to overcome these issues –and plenty of couples are succeeding at it. It all comes down to identifying how ADHD affects you and your partner, how it can interfere with your relationship, and what you can do about it.<h2>First, let’s acknowledge the way ADHD can make you feel in a relationship&nbsp;</h2>Many people with ADHD report that their partners often come across as over-controlling, attempting to micromanage everything, which can feel suffocating. There’s even a common expression for this feeling: it’s as if they were treated like a child. <h3 style="text-align: center;">“Being treated like a child can feel disrespectful, contemptuous, and exasperating”</h3> But before you put all the blame on your partner, you might do well to look at things from their perspective. When you understand how ADHD affects your relationship, you can get to the bottom of those nagging feelings. And that’s the best way to figure out what you and your partner can do about it.<h2>Inattention: the daily distractions that end up piling up</h2>Getting easily distracted, procrastinating, forgetting or leaving things undone might be normal for you. You’ve probably incorporated those things into your life, finding strategies and methods to overcome them. But your partner likely hasn’t.Your partner, out of concern or their own desire for order, might try to compensate for what they see as inattention. So what do they do? People who date someone with ADHD tend to respond to that inattention by staying on top of things. They might take on more than their share of the housework, assume they’re the ones who have to do all the planning for daily activities, or even decide to check and remind you of things you have to do for yourself.This can explain that “over-controlling” sensation you might have felt. But how does it look from their perspective?It can be extremely frustrating when you zone out of a conversation when you forget a date, don’t follow up on your word, or leave your share of the house chores undone. It can quickly make your partner feel unimportant, unheard, and even unloved.So, any steps you take towards dealing with that inattention will make a big difference.&nbsp;If you’re starting to zone out during a conversation, ask your partner to repeat themselves and show interest. If you’ve missed your last two dates together, set as many reminders and alarms as you need to make sure you make the third one.&nbsp;And if the “over-controlling” feelings are starting to get you, then talk to your partner! Explain how you feel, but do it from a place of love and empathy.<h2>Hyperactivity: the other side of the coin</h2>You might get easily distracted from certain things, but when you find something that interests you, you’re able to hyperfocus on it as if it were a superhuman skill.Still, hyperactivity can have unwanted consequences when it gets out of hand. If you can’t put your phone away during dinner, or you snap at your partner because they interrupted while you were reading a book, it can quickly become a problem.When those things happen, your partner can feel they’re not as interesting as whatever you’re doing.So, a good idea is to avoid things that you’re likely to hyperfocus on around meal times, before going to bed, or during quality time together. Or perhaps there’s one house chore you particularly enjoy at the moment, like vacuuming while playing music, so you could offer to do that even if it’s not your turn. It’s all about directing that creative energy a bit better.

<h2>Impulsivity:&nbsp;</h2>Not everyone with ADHD has an impulsivity problem, but if you do, this might be something to pay special attention to.Impulsivity in ADHD is a tendency to act quickly without thinking about the consequences.Saying the first thing that comes to mind isn’t always a good idea –even if you’re proud of your honesty. So, taking a moment to think before you say something might be especially important during serious conversations with your partner.&nbsp;Then, you have impulsive spending habits. If you’re likely to overspend, asking your partner for help in drafting a budget and sticking to it can also be a good idea.However, if you think you’re engaging in a lot of impulsive behaviour, you can also consider looking for professional advice. A trained psychologist could help you prevent those habits from damaging your relationships.<h2>Work as a team and create a unique relationship</h2>ADHD can certainly complicate some aspects of your relationship. But with the right knowledge and some teamwork, there’s no reason you can’t overcome it. The long and relaxing summer break has come to an end. And now, back-to-school season is in full swing! It's time to say goodbye to late bedtimes and endless play and hello to the new academic year.As your little one climbs one step higher on the ladder of education, your chest swells with pride. And, of course, everything on the list in preparation for the school start has been ticked off. School bag. Check. School supplies. Check. Water bottle. Check. New clothes. Check. Shoes. Check. Nervousness... uh…Check?!<h2>From the beach to the classroom</h2>The transition can bring up a lot of different emotions. Some children are thrilled. Some aren't ready for the summer fun to end.&nbsp;Here's the thing: A new start often signals new changes, new routines, and even meeting new people. And as humans, we tend to be wary about the unknown. So, as a new school year begins, children may worry about having new teachers, classmates, timetables, and the demands they'll face academically and socially.And what if your child is going to school for the first time or even starting at a completely new school? It's even more overwhelming for them.Young children are cautious of strangers and want to be near their parents and the other people whom they know and trust. Plus, they've never really been in such a structured environment before. So, they don't know what to expect or what's expected of them.Young kids, as well as those who are very sensitive, easily worried, neurodivergent, or have some developmental delays, may need some more time to adjust. <h3 style="text-align: center;">"When there's a sudden shift in routines and expectations, children can get overwhelmed."</h3> To put it simply, going from laid-back summer days to a more rigid school schedule can be a tough transition. Plus, every year brings more responsibilities and expectations.And it's not only about the nervous excitement of the initial phase. Once the novelty has worn off and things feel more familiar, some children may show some challenging behaviours and emotions about school. (Does "I really don't want to go to school today" ring a bell?).Of course, we can't generalise. However, many children do feel anxious and overwhelmed. And then they just don't want to go to school. Experts call this behaviour' school refusal', and there's evidence that it occurs in 1-5% of all school children. It peaks between the ages of 5-11.&nbsp;If you feel your child is exhibiting 'school refusal', it's best to have a talk with their teacher. And if things don't improve, you might need to seek help from a professional.Still, you can rest assured that it won't last forever. Your little one will be all grown up in the blink of an eye, you know!

<h2>Connect to release…</h2>… your children from the anxiety of the first day of school.As parents, step one to help your children sail smoothly into the new school year is to understand how they’re feeling. Really connect with them and try to understand what could be making them anxious. At the same time, try to build a positive relationship with them.&nbsp;Studies show that when the relationship between children and the adults in their lives is positive, it helps them become more comfortable with their surroundings and learn better.&nbsp;So go ahead and connect with them! Talk to them, and while you do, tune in to their thoughts, feelings, and concerns. Answer their questions!&nbsp;<h2>What else can you do to make the transition easier?</h2>Remember, your child is unique, and what works for someone else may not work for them. So, tailor your approach based on their individual needs, and of course, remember that you’re their biggest cheerleader– giving them the love and support they need to thrive academically and socially.So here are some other tips to consider:<h3>Practice makes perfect. Remember?</h3>So, practise getting into the routine of waking up early and getting ready a few days before school starts so that they can get into the groove.&nbsp;<h3>Get enough sleep</h3>Make sure they get the right amount of sleep based on their age and stage of development. Plenty of studies have shown the way of lack of sleep negatively impacts children’s grades as well as their physical and mental health. A well-rested child is also less likely to be cranky.<h3>Eat right</h3>And make sure you don’t skip breakfast. A healthy, protein-rich breakfast gives children the much-needed fuel they need to start their day off right. Keep in mind that a hungry child won’t be a happy child.<h3>Friendship is life for kids</h3>Having friends in the same environment can help your child look forward to the time they spend at school. So, as school approaches, set up playdates with their school friends so that they can reconnect and rekindle friendships before the start of the school year. This will help them ease their worries to some extent and also strengthen their friendships.<h3>Know what to expect</h3>Talk with your child about their new teacher, old and new friends, schedule, and upcoming routines. Let them choose their own school supplies. Also, if possible, visit the school or classrooms beforehand so that the children have an idea of their future surroundings.<h3>Keep calm</h3>Plan your day in a way that gives your family extra time in the morning so you aren’t rushed or anxious. If a child feels rushed right at the start of the day, they’re likely to feel less prepared for the rest of it. It can also help to teach kids to take deep breaths to calm themselves down.And don’t forget to take a deep breath yourself too. Every child feels differently about the start of the school year. But as a parent, you wouldn’t want to make the start of the school year a bigger deal than it has to be. The 5th of October is World Teacher's Day. Teachers all over the world receive Thank You cards, flowers, and gifts. Some even put on stage performances for them. Possibly, it's the only day on which we acknowledge the contributions and efforts of the people who play such an important role in our children's futures.But think about this: your child's teacher is the next most important person (after you, of course) with whom your child spends a major part of their day.&nbsp;Teachers make most of the decisions about how they spend their time, all while guiding and directing them along the way. They can help them develop their social and emotional skills and shape them into well-rounded individuals.&nbsp;Studies have shown that when teachers have a positive attitude and behaviour towards their students, it has a positive effect on the character development and success of students.&nbsp;However, the opposite is also true. When teachers have misconceptions, negative attitudes or negative behaviours, it impacts students too. Not only do their grades suffer, but their self-esteem does, too. And then, parents are forced to become staunch advocates for their children.But when we're sticking up for our children, is it possible to overdo it?Some parents who genuinely want the best for their kids might become very involved in their education. They may give extensive input to teachers or get highly engaged in classroom activities.Research has shown that the children of such involved parents– the ones who are always present and supportive of their children's efforts, may sometimes face challenges in developing independence later in life.The best thing is to try to strike a balance. What To Consider Before Introducing Your Partner To Your Kids 

This term became viral in TikTok with over 300 million views and counting. It all started when licensed Clinical Psychologist Dr Kim Sage posted a video explaining this rather toxic style of parenting, which keeps children on their toes around the parent.<h2>Eggshell Parents Are Unpredictable</h2>Eggshell parents can be unpredictable, both emotionally and behaviourally. For children, it feels like a sudden shift from everything being okay to suddenly not.&nbsp;The sudden change in their parent's mood, without any apparent reason, makes the child feel as though they have to tread lightly - like on eggshells - hence the name. A parent is the child's primary source of security, and so not knowing what to expect from them can feel destabilising for the child.It's more than just being unpredictable, though. Dr Sage mentions that such parents might sometimes say hurtful things, threaten, shame, guilt-trip, or even punish their children excessively. In some instances, the child might even feel burdened with the responsibility of looking after their parent's emotional well-being.Frequent yelling or outbursts at either their children or partners can also be a trait. Someone who lives in such an environment is constantly on alert. All of the yelling sends the body into a chronic state of fight or flight.&nbsp;Often, these parents do not recognise the impact their behaviour has on their children.

<h2>The Consequences?</h2>Eggshell parenting can have damaging results. While the term itself is new, there’s plenty of research on how parenting styles have an impact on children- from sleep to creativity to behavioural problems.&nbsp;Dr Sage explains in her video that children who are raised by eggshell parents may develop coping mechanisms in their childhood that they carry forward to their adulthood.&nbsp; <h3 style="text-align: center;">“When children grow up in an environment where they always had to watch out, they can turn out to be hypervigilant as adults.”</h3> Because their nervous system is on high alert, children with eggshell parents can be hypersensitive to everything in their environment, even sounds or smells. They may also learn to keep their head down - hiding their own feelings - so as not to provoke an outburst.They might find social situations tricky because they’re constantly analysing things and over-interpreting situations, on the lookout for signs of conflict.<h2>The Eggshell Cycle Can Be Broken</h2>Remember, it's normal for people to get frustrated and lose their tempers sometimes. Many parents give mixed messages to their children once in a while. That doesn't mean that they're eggshell parents. Essentially, with eggshell parenting, unpredictability and emotional expression are at the extreme ends.&nbsp;Recognising signs of eggshell parenting in yourself can be upsetting and overwhelming. If you think you're able to relate to some of the behaviours described here, it might be time to think about why and make some changes.&nbsp;Here are some things to help you with it:<h3>Be predictable</h3>When the parent’s behaviour is consistent, the child will feel safer and there will be more trust in your relationship<h3>Say sorry</h3>When you apologise to your child after an emotional outburst, you show them that you’re working on your emotions. They learn that mistakes are okay and that they should take responsibility for them.<h3>Work on emotional regulation</h3>Keep an eye out for things that trigger extreme emotions and work on managing them. Try deep breathing techniques to help you during tough situations.<h3>Seek professional support</h3>Consider seeking advice from a therapist or counsellor for help understanding your triggers and managing your emotions.&nbsp;Ultimately, a parent's goal is to provide their children with a nurturing environment where they can thrive. After all, how you interact with your child and the environment you create for them while they’re growing up is something they will carry with them for the rest of their life.&nbsp;

They can inspire us with their life experiences and motivate us to keep going when life gets tough. And yet, far too often, we take the presence of older people in our lives for granted.&nbsp;<h2>Having a close bond with seniors has its perks</h2>Ever thought that the challenges you face might be something an older family member has already experienced? They're like a treasure chest of life's lessons. Many have faced victories and defeats, and these stories can guide and inspire us.Take a moment to chat with them, and you'll be captivated by tales of overcoming tough times. The impact of these crises on tourism and local economies underscores how these challenges are getting closer to home.&nbsp;The same article also mentions that in the past ten years, nearly 22 million people each year have been forced to leave their homes due to extreme weather events. The predictions for the future are even more alarming. By 2050, an astonishing 1.2 billion people might need to leave their homes because of the changing climate.But what's even stranger is that we're getting used to these things happening. We quickly scroll past these pictures and stories, almost like we're not really paying attention. It's like we're in a trance.<h2>The Impact on Our Well-being</h2>Do you find yourself caught in a whirlwind of emotions? There's no denying it – stress has become a familiar companion for many. Our nervous systems are in a perpetual state of high alert as if we're collectively bracing ourselves for the next disaster.&nbsp;At the same time, we're also growing numb to these calamities, as if we're becoming desensitised. It's like our minds are struggling to process so much bad news, leaving us feeling frazzled and worn out.Perhaps the hardest part is feeling insignificant. If you yell, humiliate, or call a child names, they will learn to do the same when they're upset. In their case, it's better to gently steer them towards better choices instead of giving them punishments.<h3>Take a time-out for yourself</h3>When you feel that you're about to lose it, tell your child that you need a moment by yourself because you are upset. Give a time frame on when you'll return and, if possible, go into another room to cool off. Thomas Edison tried 10,000 different materials before he figured out the right one for the light bulb filament. So, did he fail that many times? Well, though many of us might be tempted to look at it that way, he certainly begged to differ. In his view, he found 10,000 ways that didn’t work!If Thomas Edison had been bogged down by the ways that didn’t work and stopped trying, he would probably not have become America’s most well-known and prolific inventor.The same goes for scientists. They carry out so many experiments, and they fail all the time. But they brand it differently. They call it “data”. For them, every experiment gives them a wealth of data that builds on their knowledge and gets them closer to success.The truth is, failure is a failure only when we fail to learn from it.Think about it. In the journey of our lives, we face so many small setbacks-failing a test, losing a job, breaking up with a partner, or even failing to meet the expectations of our loved ones. These moments feel so overwhelming at the time, and soon enough, the disappointment begins to fester within you.But, if you cultivate a good relationship with failure and look at it as an opportunity for growth, you will be able to take chances, push boundaries, and grow.<h2>Why is failure so repulsive?</h2>First of all, we get disappointed when we fail, and no one likes to feel disappointed. This can be anyone from friends, family, colleagues, or even people who we see on social media.In addition to all of the above, a failed attempt at something may make us feel that we’re a failure as a person. This thing called personalisation is pretty common, wherein we’re unable to separate the concept of failing at a particular endeavour from the concept of being a failure.&nbsp;Now, of course, it’s an understandable feeling. However, it’s not logical to believe that you are a failure simply because you failed at something.&nbsp;

<h2>Failure and its consequences</h2>A failed attempt can have positive and negative consequences. One of the negative consequences is that your self-esteem can take a hit. Some people are very confident until they come across a big failure, and then, they feel as though they’re worthless.&nbsp;This can lead to all sorts of problems, but in particular, it can be the start of mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. And, of course, another effect is that you might lose the motivation to try again. <h3 style="text-align: center;">“The upside to failure is that it teaches us valuable lessons.”</h3> We become more humble, empathetic, resilient, and emotionally intelligent. Like how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, we emerge from failure a different person. And this can be important for our growth as a person.Consider this. Try to recognise how you feel and name your feelings. Acknowledge your role and take action to prevent further mistakes. When you take responsibility for your mistakes, it means you learn from them and will work to improve your skills and processes. And many of them have stood the test of time and evolved into the wedding traditions we’re familiar with today.

<h2 style="text-align: justify;">Why do many of us choose to stick to tradition in the digital age?&nbsp;</h2>Well, there’s more than one reason.&nbsp;For one, it’s a way to preserve time-honoured cultural norms. Sometimes the couple may come from similar backgrounds, and sometimes they may be completely different. So, traditions are a way to pay homage to their respective cultures.&nbsp;Second, it’s a chance to show how some important parts of married life are represented through symbolic means. Like, the wedding ring. You might have heard about how the ring stands for eternity– a circle has no beginning or end.And did you know that rings weren’t always made of silver or gold? In ancient Rome, women showed commitment to a man by wearing papyrus rings on their wrists and ankles. Eventually, iron took the place of papyrus. But they didn’t upgrade to gold until the end of the second century of the Common Era. <h3 style="text-align: center;">“Traditional ceremonies give you a chance to celebrate something meaningful with your partner while surrounded by your loved ones.”</h3> So, whether you and your partner come from the same culture or not, celebrating wedding traditions gives you the perfect opportunity to do something special and create lasting memories that mark the start of your new life together.And while some traditions may not be followed anymore, they still often hold a cultural significance.<h2 style="text-align: justify;">From sawing a log to hiding shoes…</h2>Wedding traditions across the globe are as varied as the ways you can say “I do”!In Greece, for example, as a sign of trust, the best man shaves the groom on the morning of the wedding. Then, his close friends step in to help him get dressed.&nbsp;The bride writes the names of all the single women on the bottom of her shoes. According to tradition, the names that get worn off by the end of the reception will get married soon.You’ve also probably heard about the “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue” tradition. It’s said to come from an old English rhyme.&nbsp;Brides wear something old to represent the past, something new that stands for the future, something borrowed to symbolise the happiness she feels from being with her husband and something blue to fend off evil spirits.And while it’s often expected to shed a few tears at your wedding, in China, they take it one step further.In some parts of China, brides are required to practise crying beforehand. This ritual is known as ‘Zuo Tang.’ It’s practised in the West Sichuan province and dates back to an era when the mother of a Zhao princess broke down into tears at her wedding.&nbsp;Tujia brides are expected to cry for one hour each day for the whole month leading up to the ceremony. Ten days into the ritual, the bride’s mother joins her, and ten days after that, her grandmother joins too.&nbsp;But crying doesn’t always steal the show. Weddings are a happy affair, and the people who are about to get married can often hardly contain their excitement!&nbsp;While you might be eager to flash your brightest smile for the wedding photographer, couples from Congo do things a little differently. The pair aren’t allowed to smile throughout the entire wedding day. If they do happen to crack a smile, it can be taken to mean that they’re not serious about marriage!Some wedding traditions also involve a test of your physical strength. In Germany, for example, newlyweds sometimes follow a tradition called Baumstamm Sägen, where they have to saw a log into two pieces. And since the couple has to tackle this obstacle together, it symbolises the united strength that will help them overcome challenges in their marriage.Now, how would you feel if you saw someone spitting on the bride on her wedding day?&nbsp;Shocked? Well, it can be a sign of good faith, actually, at least if you’re in Kenya. It’s common for the father of the bride to spit on his daughter’s head and breasts before the ceremony. For the Maasai people in Kenya, spitting on someone is a show of respect.&nbsp;And imagine if your shoes were stolen during the wedding ceremony!&nbsp;In India, many Hindu grooms are prepared for their shoes to be stolen during the ceremony. This tradition is called ‘Joota Chupaai’. The groom takes off his shoes before he sits down for one of the wedding rituals. That’s when the bridesmaids and cousins sneak in, steal his shoes, and then hide them. The poor groom has to bribe them with cash if he wants to get his shoes back!This is just a glimpse into a handful of wedding traditions around the world…there are so many more! So, now you know why we do what we do at weddings… After all, weddings aren’t just a celebration of love. They’re also a celebration of personal history and family heritage!

Since then, it has only got bigger- thanks to Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and many other platforms for publishing images and videos. These days, social media accounts are much like our good old scrapbooks-they’re used to document every detail of a kid’s life, often from the moment they are born.Every day online, we see pictures and videos of kids-some we know, some we may never have met. Someone took their first steps, someone had a trip to the zoo, someone ate candy floss, or someone jumped in a muddy puddle.&nbsp;And this trend of sharing your child’s life on social media even has a name-Sharenting; that’s a combination of sharing and parenting.But what’s wrong with sharing a few pictures? Everyone does it. It’s no big deal, right? Actually, sharing online is as good as taking out an ad on a billboard by a highway. And not just any highway that some people will drive down, but one that potentially the whole world could drive up and down, now and in the future.So, even though it might not seem like a big deal most of the time, sharing too much or too personal information about your child's life can sometimes put you or, worse, your child in a tough situation.In fact, some countries like France have begun regulating sharenting, where parents can be fined (even up to 45,000€) and jailed if their children decide to sue them for breaching their privacy when they’re older.<h2>But why do we do it?</h2>Well, parents feel proud and admire their children-nothing extraordinary about that. So, they get tempted to share some pictures and let others share in the joy.&nbsp;Plus, sharing is really easy. Just a few clicks and the pictures are online within seconds. It’s also pretty practical when you can reach so many people at once and fill them in on your children’s accomplishments and what’s new in their life.Through sharenting, parents also can get in touch with like-minded people and get emotional support.One study found that when new mothers receive likes and positive comments on their babies’ pictures, it validates them as good mothers and makes them feel supported. For new parents, sharenting can help to deal with the social isolation they face when their kids are still young. So, a desire for interpersonal connection makes them want to overshare during that time.And also, by posting about family activities and how they help their kids deal with educational challenges, parents may want to flaunt how competent they are as parents.&nbsp;What’s more, it can also be a source of income. Influencers may earn meaningful amounts from brand partnerships by sharing their family lives online.

<h2>What consequences can sharenting have?</h2>The internet has many advantages. But it has risks too.&nbsp;<h3 style="text-align: center;"> </h3><h3 style="text-align: center;">“Once you share something online, it can be very difficult to completely erase it in the future.”</h3> The paradox is that most social media platforms don’t allow those under 13 years of age to create profiles. But by sharenting, the small protections offered by the restrictions of these social media platforms are negated.For example, posting pictures or videos of children can put their safety at risk. Through the posts, criminals or ill-meaning people can get information about the kids-their names, ages, the school they study in, their behaviour, and so on. And they could use this information to make contact with your child.Think about it. If a young child comes across a stranger who appears to know them because of the things their parents post online, the child could believe that they really know them and fall into bigger danger.Of course, parents don’t mean any harm when they share posts about their children with others. However, they may not be taking into account their child's perspective.Apart from safety issues, what seems amusing to adults might be embarrassing and shameful for children; if not now, then maybe some years down the line. Depending on where the posts were published, they may still be accessible years or even decades later.&nbsp;In most cases, sharenting involves younger kids, who are either unable to give consent or don’t know what they’re consenting to. For example, you might want to post a picture which might be embarrassing for the child.Also, when parents document and share their child’s life online, they are sort of creating a narrative around their character which the child hasn’t built for themself. For example, portraying that the child likes sport or is a mummy’s boy. If parents have established an online identity for their child before they want to build it on their own, the child may think that the world has a specific perception of them.&nbsp;This can also impact their sense of individuality and feeling of independence. They may also start withholding information about their lives from their parents so that they can have better control over what’s posted about them and what’s not.<h2>Responsible sharenting is the way to go!</h2>As with everything else online, the key is to set boundaries. Here are a few tips for a safer, more conscious sharenting:<h3>Get the go-ahead from your child</h3>So when you think about posting something about your child, first consider whether they are old enough to understand what this means. If yes, explain to them what you plan to post and who will be able to see it. Try asking them how they feel about it and talk with them about the possible implications. Be sure to respect their wishes if they say "no".<h3>Think twice before posting</h3>Ask yourself what your goal is in sharing that post, who will see the post, and if you’d worry if the post is seen by the wrong person. If you feel that any of those things raises a red flag, don’t share the post.&nbsp;<h3>Avoid posting something negative, critical, or revealing</h3>And that includes their health concerns, difficulties at school, or your criticism of their behaviour. This violates your child’s privacy.<h3>Avoid oversharing</h3>Make sure never to share sensitive information on social media like your child’s full name, address, birthdate, or anything else that hackers or criminals could use. Avoid publishing images of children, especially in intimate or private moments (for example, with little or no clothing).<h3>Monitor your contact list</h3>And regularly filter and sanitise your list of contacts and friends on social networks. Because it’s they who’ll have access to what you post. Also, try not to add into your network people you don't know.<h3>Make use of privacy settings</h3>They might not be foolproof, but take maximum advantage of the privacy settings on social media so as to limit who sees your posts.When we live in a digital world, not indulging in a bit of sharenting can seem challenging. But, in the end, it’s all about making mindful choices, keeping in view the long-term repercussions we may have to face.

Think about it. One thing he revealed was the way he’d blocked out early memories of his mother.&nbsp;This process is our brain’s way of protecting us from overwhelming emotions. But unfortunately, it can also cause issues with memory and emotional regulation down the line.<h2>But how do these experiences affect our relationships?&nbsp;</h2>The effects of this process aren’t black and white. On the one hand, it can bring you closer to your partner and make you more understanding of each other. On the other hand, it can make you suspicious and distant.But the good news is that with the right support and resources, it’s possible to work through the effects of trauma.<h2>What actually happens in our brains when we experience trauma?&nbsp;</h2>Put it simply, different parts of the brain are affected in different ways.&nbsp;Studies showed that the hippocampus, the part of the brain which helps us form memories, was shrunken in depressed women who had experienced trauma in childhood. And that could explain the significant decline in some people's memory.But the hippocampus also plays a big role in regulating our emotions. And dealing with them can get more complicated when trauma also affects the amygdala, the part of our brain responsible for processing fear.&nbsp;When the amygdala is impacted, dealing with anxiety and fear triggers becomes even harder. It’s like trying to swim upstream, an uphill battle that can leave you feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.But don’t despair!&nbsp; <h3 style="text-align: center;">‘‘Therapy and support from others can help reduce the effects of trauma on the brain.’’&nbsp;</h3> And there are techniques that can help you manage your emotions and reduce anxiety, so you can regain control over your life.&nbsp;

It’s actually a necessary step towards healing.<h3>Spend quality time together</h3>Doing fun things you both enjoy, like taking a walk or going out for the night, can help you reconnect.&nbsp;When you’re walking, you’re not just getting some exercise, you’re also spending quality time together, and that can help you remember all the good times you share. And a night out on the town means you can let loose and forget about your worries for a little while.<h3>Be present</h3>Just be there for them. Help them with their day-to-day tasks. Simple things like grocery shopping, cooking, or doing the laundry can be daunting tasks when someone is dealing with emotional baggage.&nbsp;Listen to them without judgment. Just let them know that you’re there to support them through their journey.<h3>Get professional help</h3>If you and your partner are having a hard time coping, don’t hesitate to seek out help from a pro. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness! There are plenty of professionals out there who can help you navigate the emotional hurdles that come with trauma.&nbsp;And remember, everyone experiences trauma differently. It can be overwhelming, but with patience, help, and understanding, you can find joy and connection with your partner.

From Trauma to Love

If at any point in your relationship, you found yourself questioning the bond that you share with your partner… Don’t worry; you’re not alone. Whether it’s a recent relationship or a long-term one, we’ve all found doubt raising its ugly head at some point.Maybe you’re concerned that your partner doesn’t love you as much as you love them, or you’re wondering whether your relationship is strong enough for a long-term commitment. Perhaps a text to your partner goes unanswered. Maybe you worry whether your partner is still attracted to you.Or, after thinking back on a seemingly harmless comment your partner made, it doesn’t seem quite so harmless anymore! And then, you find yourself doubting a relationship for which you held such high hopes.You see, you invest time and energy into a relationship. So caring about whether those resources are well spent will, of course, bring about some doubt.<h2>Doubts can arise for various reasons</h2>Change can be one of them. Think about it. When you commit and feel settled in a relationship, you sort of understand your partner instinctively. You feel like you can predict their responses and know their behaviour patterns. But, as soon as there’s a slight change or something unusual happens, you might wonder what’s wrong and start questioning your relationship. For example, when you move to a new city or say, your partner makes a new group of friends or starts a new hobby.Stress can also be the cause of doubts in your relationship. In our busy lives, stress can be unavoidable. And sometimes, the stress and anxiety from work and other chores can spill over into your relationship.&nbsp; <h3 style="text-align: center;">“You might have doubts about how much attention and care your partner shows you, but those thoughts may not always be accurate.”</h3> In the same way, you may have doubts about your relationship because of things that happened to you in the past that had a big impact on your mind and made you question the good things about relationships. For example, maybe you had your trust broken by a partner that lied or cheated. Or maybe a past relationship ended suddenly without forewarning.If you still have unresolved emotional issues from the past, it can make you wonder if what you have now is real.

<h2>Some amount of doubt can actually be good</h2>Sure, it sounds counter-intuitive, but having doubts about your relationship to some extent isn't so bad. It means that you're thinking critically about yourself and your partner. It shows that you're putting some real thought into your relationship and your compatibility with each other.Having doubts means you're paying attention to what's going on around you. It doesn't always mean that the relationship is not healthy or fulfilling. What's important, though, is to find out whether your doubts are based on valid concerns or if they're just a normal part of being in a relationship. After you figure that out, it can help to evaluate them.&nbsp;So think of doubts as a signal to check in with your partner. Look at them as a stepping stone to a higher level of commitment, where you and your partner can work on your differences and strengthen your relationship.<h2>How to overcome doubts</h2>Learning how to overcome doubts in your relationship has just as much to do with shifting your perspective as it has to do with communicating with your partner.<h3>Analyse where it’s coming from</h3>Before doubting your partner, ask yourself whether it's your own fears or past experiences that are bringing up these suspicious thoughts. Try to make efforts to be on the same page, accept each other, and move forward.<h3>Don’t discount red flags</h3>It's important to remember that some doubts are going to turn out to be valid and red flags. Like, if you worry you’re not being treated with respect or you worry about your safety. Such doubts can be signals that you’re in an unhealthy relationship and you should seek additional help from friends and family.<h3>Communicate how you feel</h3>Keep your partner informed about what you’re thinking and the way you feel. Make sure that you express doubts in a non-judgemental manner, without an aggressive tone. Rather than confronting them outright, talk about the reasons that make you suspicious. If you communicate, neither of you will have to guess what the other is thinking.<h3>Focus on the positives</h3>If you feel something is wrong, it doesn't mean that nothing is going right. And if you feel anxious, take care of yourself by practising deep breathing or similar relaxation techniques.Remember, doubts are a normal part of any relationship. “My child screamed at balloons for an hour because they couldn’t stop floating!”“My 1.5-year-old son had a meltdown because I wouldn’t let him pour apple juice on the cat!”“My toddler got ticked off because the trees are taller than our house!”“My toddler lost it because the imaginary door on his imaginary fire truck wouldn’t open, and he was stuck inside!”These were just some of the answers that parents gave in response to a viral Reddit thread that asked them, “What’s the most illogical thing your toddler had a breakdown over?”Many of us have witnessed toddler tantrums, and most of us, if not all, have experienced it. At home, while shopping, in the park-while people look on, and you desperately hope for the earth to open up and swallow you. And let’s also not forget that we were that toddler once upon a time.According to the National Association of School Psychologists, temper tantrums generally begin to occur when children are between 12 and 15 months old, peak between 18 and 36 months, and continue until around age 4. And that makes sense because as babies grow up into toddlers, they discover new ways to express themselves and test boundaries.And while they have many skills, knowing how to control their emotions is not one of them. So, when you’re in the middle of a gale-force temper tantrum, you might see crying, hitting, biting, stomping, kicking, throwing things, and breath holding.And though you may find it difficult to look at the positive side when your child is having a temper tantrum, it helps to remember that these tantrums are a healthy part of their development.So…<h2>Why do tantrums happen?</h2>Well, young children are still at an early stage of social, emotional, and language development. They’re also at a stage where they’re becoming independent and developing their own wants, needs, and ideas. And when they can't express their needs and feelings with their limited communication skills, they get frustrated. <h3 style="text-align: center;">“Your child is working through their emotions and doesn’t know what else to do to show that they’re upset”</h3> So, they get frustrated with their limitations and get angry about not getting their way. Plus, they’re learning that their behaviour influences others. So, in short, by throwing a tantrum, children express and manage their feelings and try to understand or change what’s going on around them.And there can be many things that can make temper tantrums more likely to happen. For example, they could be stressed, tired, hungry, or overstimulated. Maybe they’re facing a situation that they just don’t know how to cope with. Or maybe they’re experiencing strong, overwhelming emotions.Learning to deal with frustration is a skill that children gain over time.&nbsp;So try this the next time your child has a temper tantrum. Instead of looking at it as a behavioural problem, think of it this way- “My child doesn’t have the emotional or verbal skill to deal with their frustration right now. He or she just doesn’t know how to cope and needs my help.”

<h2>How to support your child when they have a tantrum</h2>The American Academy of Pediatrics says that when you respond in a calm and consistent way to your child’s outbursts, it helps them understand where the boundaries are. This can make your child feel safe and in control.&nbsp;Here are some tricks you could consider:<h3>Try to distract them</h3>Children have short attention spans and they’re usually easy to divert. If you sense a tantrum brewing because you said “no” to buying KinderJoy, while you're waiting at the supermarket check out- try to switch gears and direct their attention to something else. Like saying, “Wow! Look at that fish tank over there!”<h3>Change the location</h3>If your child is having a tantrum in a public place, pick them up and move to a safe place- maybe your car or the restroom, and let them blow off some steam. Try explaining calmly to them. Gently touch them and give them a hug. This can be soothing to them and help them calm down.<h3>Avoid situations that may trigger tantrums</h3>Try to make sure that they aren’t hungry, tired, or overstimulated. If they ask for sweets or toys when you’re shopping, steer clear of the aisles stocking those temptations. If the tantrum tends to happen in restaurants, choose places that offer quick service.<h3>Don’t sweat the small stuff</h3>Give them some choice in small matters and avoid saying “no” to everything. For example, you could ask them, “Do you want to have peas or carrots for dinner?” Or “Do you want to wear the blue shorts or the red ones?” This will give them a feeling of some control and reduce their frustration to a small extent.<h3>Give positive reinforcement</h3>Praise them when they behave well. Give them a hug and tell them how proud you’re of them when they share or follow directions.<h2>And don’t forget to take care of yourself too!</h2>It might be tempting to have a tantrum of your own when your kid is throwing one. But it’s important to take care of yourself as much as it is to care for your child.&nbsp;Here are a couple of things to remember:<h3>Try to stay calm</h3>Take a few deep breaths and think about how you can handle the situation. Try to keep the calmness in your voice and manner. If you use a loud tone or fast motions, it may upset your child even more. So, be kind to yourself and don't let your child's tantrum make you feel guilty or out of control.&nbsp;Tantrums are just a part of growing up, and they will soon be a thing of the past. Taming Toddler Tantrums and How to Keep Your Cool!

Monogamy is the practice of having only one partner, and it turns out that in nature, this type of relationship is actually pretty rare.&nbsp;Birds are an exception; up to 90% of them have monogamous relationships. However, only 3-8% of mammals, including humans, seek out relationships with one single mate. And it's even more rare when it comes to fish, reptiles or insects.If your goal is to leave as many descendants as possible–as it is for most animals–then monogamy doesn't seem like the smartest choice. After all, more partners means greater chances of reproducing.However, that's not always the case. <h3 style="text-align: center;">‘‘For one reason or another, there are a few species that thrive on monogamous relationships. They pick one partner for a season or for life and stick with them.’’</h3> But humans are different from other animals in many ways. We have complex cultures, languages, and societies.Still, for those of us that choose monogamous relationships, there’s a lesson or two we can learn from the animal kingdom.<h2>Monogamous animals put effort into their relationships</h2>There might be a million differences between human and animal relationships, but there are also some surprising similarities.<h3>Loyalty and support</h3>Species that choose the same partner for life, or even for a season, are often extremely loyal to their mates.&nbsp;Don’t get it wrong; it’s not that cheating doesn’t happen in these relationships. But still, most of them stay with the same partner after they get together.&nbsp;For example, some migratory birds travel for months, over hundreds of miles, just to return to their partner every year. And wolves often partner for life. And they spend their lives hunting, raising puppies, and travelling together.&nbsp;And while animals may not be able to express it in words, it sure seems like they know how to stay loyal to their partners and keep the sparks alive! From owl monkeys to swans, it seems like monogamous animals have unlocked the secrets to maintaining a successful relationship: commitment and support.<h3>Teamwork&nbsp;</h3>Whether it’s time to look for food or to care for their offspring, sharing responsibilities is a signature of monogamous species.In nature, females usually look after their offspring. But in monogamous relationships, it’s very common for males to be heavily involved too. Male seahorses, for example, take it even further and carry their babies inside their bellies.&nbsp;And in many other species, both the male and the female take turns searching for food, building their nest, or fighting off predators.

<h2>Having only one partner has benefits</h2>Take emperor penguins, for example.They mate and reproduce in Antarctica under some of the most extreme conditions on Earth. So having someone to go through all of that with can mean the difference between life and death.The couple takes turns searching for food, caring for their chicks, and protecting each other from the cold and windy weather.For example, when the female lays her egg, she’s so exhausted and hungry that she rushes to the sea to recharge. So what does she do? She transfers the caretaking responsibilities to the male, who then looks after it for almost two months before she returns.&nbsp;And when she comes back, just in time for the chick’s hatching, she takes over the parenting responsibilities again. That means it’s her partner’s turn to replenish his energy.Afterwards, they spend the rest of the season working as a team to find food and look after their chick.&nbsp;Emperor penguins simply cannot raise a chick on their own. If something happens to their partner, the chances that their offspring will survive are slim to none.So when their chick is old enough to make it on their own, the parents know it was only possible because of each other.&nbsp;So, even though animal relationships might look different from ours in many ways, there’s still a lot to learn from them.&nbsp;Having only one partner has many challenges, but putting in all that work has also a lot of benefits.So, cheers to our monogamous animal friends and the relationships they’ve inspired!
